I'm back from vacation and ready to jump back into our
sermon series
It's
Complicated - Jesus on Relationships.
It's based on some of Jesus' harder
teaching in the 5th chapter of the Gospel
of Matthew where he unpacks the deeper
meanings of the Ten Commandments. The
first week was on anger. The second week
was on forgiveness - both speaking to the
commandment, "Thou shall not kill" and
Jesus redefinition of murder.
This week we unpack Matthew 5:27-30: 27"You
have heard that it was said, 'Do not
commit adultery.'
28But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman
lustfully has already committed adultery
with her in his heart." The sermon is
entitled
Love,
Lust, and Sex, and although I
don't normally preach on something as
earthy as this, it was important to Jesus
for people to understand how powerful
these emotions are - powerful enough to
both create life and destroy lives.
Created in the image of God, humans have
the potential to experience powerful
intimacy. Unchecked anger and lust,
however, will totally eclipse all chance
for healthy connections. Jesus calls us,
on a number of levels, to make radical
decisions regarding our own spiritual and
emotional lives.
I am delighted to be back and look forward to seeing
all of you this Sunday. We will also
celebrate the Sacrament of Holy
Communion. Come prepared to worship God
and to experience the commemoration of the
sacrifice Christ made for each of us. And,
as always,
I LOVE being your pastor,
