October 2011

Dear Friends

Pastor Linda

I have been wanting to talk about this for a long time...Weeds, Seeds, Treasure, and Fish.  Matthew 13 is a cluster of amazing parables told by Jesus to describe what the Kingdom of God is like.  God's way of running the world is always amazing! And every week we pray for the coming of the Kingdom of God (...you know - Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.) Throughout the Gospels, Jesus attempts to help us understand what the Kingdom of God is like and Matthew 13 goes a long way toward that end.

I've listed more details below, but for now...

I am looking forward to seeing you in church. And, as always...

...I LOVE being your pastor,

The Parables of Matthew 13 Series

Weeds, Seeds, Treasure, and Fish

Matthew 13:24-29

WEEDS, Seeds, Treasure, and Fish

It's hard to understand why God allows evil and good to coexist on the earth, but Jesus said not to let it unhinge us. Stay alert and focus on feeding the shoots of God-life - demonstrating the new reality of the kingdom of God.

Matthew 13:31-33

Weeds, SEEDS, Treasure, and Fish

One tiny seed of faith. One scant sprinkling of yeast. Jesus' somewhat exaggerated metaphors in Matthew 13 drive a powerful point home: kingdom greatness is derived from seemingly insignificant beginnings. It's time to realize the power each one of us possesses regardless of our seemingly insignificant status. Embrace the Mustard Seed Possibilities.

Matthew 13:44-45

Weeds, Seeds, TREASURE, and Fish

What could be so appealing that you would give up everything just to obtain it as your own? Jesus' final set of parables in Matthew 13 describes such an obsessive desire, "...like a treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it... he sold all he had and bought that field."

Matthew 13:47-50

Weeds, Seeds, Treasure, and FISH

Does God really see us this way - some of us good fish and some of us bad - the bad needing to be tossed away? Is there another way to understand this parable?

Stewardship: A Way of Life

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Is that for real? Yes - it is.

Pastor's Bible Study

Everyone thirsts, but there is only one drink that can truly satisfy: Jesus Christ, the Living Water.

h2o lofoH2O is a DVD-based Bible Study experience designed to create an atmosphere where people are comfortable considering the person of Jesus Christ. H2O uses carefully crafted storytelling that promotes meaningful discussion and provides relevant biblical answers. During the Pastor's Wednesday evening Bible Study, we will share the truth of Jesus Christ through relationships and community, and it is designed to transform lives by feeding the mind and moving the heart.

We start with a snack dinner at 6:00 (reservations are needed - write Carol Cullen at cac1cac@gmail.com or call her at 278-7601 by Tuesday evening each week).  The table fellowship is fun and is followed by the Bible Study at 6:30. Everyone is welcome --- so come on!

day trippers

The Day Trippers had a good time on their recent excursion to Old School Square. They saw some amazing artwork done in crayon. But no one has shown me their crayon creations! I can't wait to see their work ~ maybe I'll have to check the front of their refrigerators.
