Located about an hour from Guatemala City is the small town of Sumpango. Primarily a Mayan community, this town is full of vibrant people nestled in the middle of beautiful rolling hills. Sumpango is the poorest of the poor. Because of the high percentage of youth (63%) living below the poverty line, many children are forced to leave school at a young age and go work in the fields to bring in any extra income they can for the family. This survival method creates a cycle of poverty that is very challenging for families living in rural Sumpango.
Cason is excited to send 41 youth and adults to Sumpango to help build and expand a local church building, serve at a local HIV orphanage, build home additions for overcrowded families, and hit the streets for powerful home visits where we will share food and fellowship with many Guatemalan families.
All of the proceeds from our First Annual Pig Roast will go to help subsidize the cost of this trip, as well as allow us take much needed supplies to the people of Sumpango. We are seeking sponsors to help defray our expenses so that the money raised will actually go to the mission, allowing us to do more for these needy people. We thank you in advance for your generosity!
